Newcastle’s Eddie Howe on Must-Win Champions League Match Against PSG

Newcastle United knows that a loss and possibly a draw puts them out of the UEFA Champions League knockout stage. As a result, Eddie Howe’s squad needs to throw everything into the match to come out with three points.

Howe spoke to reporters before the contest against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night at the Parc des Princes. Understanding that a loss ends their run in the tournament, he touched on how his team must enter this match with so much on the line for them.

“I think it’s good to have that mix of emotions going into a game. I think we have to play on the edge,” Howe said (h/t Culture PSG). “This is a defining moment in our Champions League campaign. We are well aware of our position in the group and what can happen tomorrow, so we will give everything.”

A win for PSG over Newcastle will put them on one foot in the knockout stages heading into the final matchday. Afterward, a victory over Borussia Dortmund will likely see them finish as the group winners.

Luis Enrique and Co. need to win, and they likely win the group and punch their ticket to the round of 16 after a couple of hiccups along the way in this “Group of Death.”
