Monaco and Newcastle Get Upper Hand as PSG Defense Takes Hit

Paris Saint-Germain has suffered a significant setback in its defense. Their captain, Marquinhos, will be unavailable for ten days due to a right hamstring injury he sustained while playing for the Brazilian national team earlier this week.

The right hamstring injury not only forces him to miss domestic league action on Friday against AS Monaco. However, it also leaves a void in PSG’s lineup for a crucial UEFA Champions League clash against Newcastle United on Tuesday at the Parc des Princes.

While the absence of their captain will undoubtedly pose a challenge for PSG, Kylian Mbappé should fill the leadership roles with no issues. The 24-year-old does captain the French national team, so it’s not a position he isn’t familiar with.

As for the backline, seeing if Danilo Pereira or Lucas Hernandez slide into the central defense will be interesting. PSG is already dealing with Warren Zaire-Emery’s injury and making up for his absence. Nonetheless, this is all a tricky situation for manager Luis Enrique to navigate.
