Kylian Mbappé and Paris Saint-Germain are heading into the FIFA international break on a winning note. The 24-year-old scored a hat-trick in the 3-0 win over Stade de Reims on Sunday at Stade Auguste Delaune.
The Frenchman got started early with his goal-scoring. Ousmane Dembélé put a superb cross into the box, leading Mbappé to score off a volley. The first goal was probably the highlight reel of the three strikes that found the back of the net.
After the match, Mbappé spoke postgame, and the winger was asked to sum up his impressive night that allowed PSG to stand alone atop the Ligue 1 standings for the first time this 2023-24 season.
“What we wanted was to win,” Mbappé told Amazon Prime (h/t Paris Fans). “Nice drew, we wanted to take the lead. It’s done, we’re happy. We will have time to think about the Champions League. Ligue 1 is another competition. It’s another state of mind, another way of playing. We’re happy, we’re going home.”
PSG hopes Mbappé continues this good form when club football resumes after the break. The Parisians have a challenging schedule to close out 2023, with the two UEFA Champions League matches against Newcastle United and Borussia Dortmund being the most important.
If the capital secures two wins, they’re into the knockout stages despite the bumpy group stage.
