Newcastle United will have to contain a Paris Saint-Germain squad that scored five goals in the 5-2 win over AS Monaco last Friday night at the Parc des Princes.
The Magpies know that if they want to keep their UEFA Champions League knockout stage hopes alive, they probably need a win over PSG. However, that’s easier said than done. The English club must stop PSG’s attack if it wants a victory.
Manager Eddie Howe spoke with reporters ahead of the contest on Tuesday. He laid out a possible mentality his squad needs to have to ensure PSG has no breakout in the offensive category.
“It is difficult to talk about their players,” Howe told reporters (h/t Culture PSG). “They have quality everywhere. They score goals with ease. Since his match at Newcastle, [Mbappé] has scored a lot of goals. Our structure and resilience was good, with the exception of the Bournemouth game.
“We’re going to have to be as good as we know how to be. No clues on a particular tactic tomorrow except again and again a huge pressure like that inflicted on PSG during the first leg.”
A win for PSG will put them on one foot in the knockout stages. Luis Enrique and Co. need to win, and they likely win the group and punch their ticket to the round of 16 after a couple of hiccups along the way in this “Group of Death.”
