Uruguay stunned the reigning 2022 FIFA World Cup champions Argentina with a 2-0 win on Thursday night in Buenos Aires. Furthermore, Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo etched his name in an impressive fun fact in the victory.
Araujo opened the scoring just before halftime. The defender, who was playing right-back, dashed into the box and slotted home at the far post.
OptaJavier pointed out on X, formerly Twitter, that Araujo’s goal against Argentina was the first goal La Albiceleste conceded since Kylian Mbappé’s memorable hat-trick in the final of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar back in December 2022.

Nonetheless, Araujo’s goal might have been a side story as Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte went viral in the match. In the first half, Ugarte got into a confrontation with Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodrigo De Paul.
Afterward, Ugarte would make an NSFW gesture at the 29-year-old. Even after the game, there was animosity between the two squads. Former PSG star Lionel Messi was asked about the gesture and offered to remain silent rather than say what he truly feels.
Ugarte and Uruguay will look to get six out of six points this FIFA international break. La Celeste will welcome Bolivia to the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo.
