Why Deschamps Isn’t Worried About Mbappé and Praises Zaire-Emery

Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappé hasn’t had his best stretch of games, which have included an ankle injury and a lopsided 4-1 loss to Newcastle United in the UEFA Champions League.

Despite this concerning form from the 24-year-old France national team manager, Didier Deschamps isn’t worried about the winger. The PSG star was recently part of the call-ups for the international break, and Deschamps spoke with the media.

“Is it his summer period where he didn’t have classic preparation that means he’s lacking? I have no concerns about Kylian, his desire and his competitive mindset,” Deschamps told reporters (h/t Paris Fans). “Himself first, I know him well enough, he cannot be satisfied with what he does. Even when he does things well or very well, he wants to do better.”

Le Parisien recently reported that the entire summer saga mentally affected the Frenchman. The forward appeared to be on the way out after not triggering the option to extend his contract until 2025. Nonetheless, seeing how Mbappé shakes off this slow form will be interesting.

Didier Deschamps has high praise for PSG’s Warren Zaire-Emery

Warren Zaire-Emery was one of the few bright spots in the loss to the Magpies. The 17-year-old midfielder gave the assist for PSG’s single goal against the Premier League club.

As a result, the teenager could push to be part of the senior French national team ahead of the 2024 Euros. Deschamps spoke about the PSG player’s recent form and had plenty of praise.

“What he has achieved since the start of the season could have been surprising at first,” Deschamps added (h/t Paris Fans). “I will not hide from you that he is potentially capable of being on this list. The priority, I leave it to the Hopes. But if he continues, he is a serious candidate for a role in midfield.”
