Paris Saint-Germain was one of the clubs eyeing Brazilian striker Vitor Roque. The teenager, who was playing at Athletico Paranaense, opted to reject the Ligue 1 giants other clubs. Afterward, he chose to join FC Barcelona.
The 18-year-old will be arriving to join the Catalan side this winter. Nonetheless, what made Roque decide that the Spanish club is the best place to begin his European career?
Roque notes that Barcelona’s long history with Brazilian players made it easy to choose where he would go.
“Why Barça? This has always been my dream since I was a child, and also my family’s dream,” Roque told Mundo Deportivo (h/t Le10Sport). “Since my childhood, I have always watched Barcelona matches, with Ronaldo, Romario, Neymar, the Brazilians too, and now Raphinha… I have always dreamed of going to Barcelona.”
PSG was in the market for a striker this past summer transfer window. While Roque was reportedly a target for the Ligue 1 giants, the French club didn’t miss a beat in finding a striker for the 2023-24 season.
Gonçalo Ramos and Randal Kolo Muani were brought in to fill the No. 9 position. As a result, the clubs involved, at least PSG and Barcelona, found what they were looking for in the striker position.
