Uruguay’s Win Over Brazil Puts PSG’s Marquinhos in the Firing Line

Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos is under fire for his performance in Brazil’s 2-0 loss to Uruguay on Tuesday at the Estadio Centenario. The PSG captain played 90 minutes, which wasn’t all that impressive.

Marquinhos only had two clearances but had a hand in losing the one-on-one battle that led to the cross, resulting in the goal by Liverpool FC’s Darwin Núñez. Nonetheless, the 29-year-old had plenty of critics in the Brazilian media.

Here’s what some wrote on X, formerly Twitter, about Marquinhos’ performance:

The veteran has shown worrying signs at center-back while at PSG since the departure of Thiago Silva. It’s why the capital club invested money into Milan Skriniar and Lucas Hernadez, as they can play the position.

Furthermore, Marquinhos was linked to Saudi Arabia this past summer transfer window. If these types of performances continue, the Ligue 1 giants will need to send him to the bench or possibly move on from him beginning in January.

Will this be a wakeup call for the PSG defender, or is this the beginning of a downhill slide?
