The future of Kylian Mbappé remains a topic of discussion. With the January transfer window nearing, the 24-year-old can have open talks over a pre-contract once the calendar turns to 2024.
Furthermore, with Real Madrid lurking to sign the player, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner has a significant decision on his hands. CBS Sports reporter Jonathan Johnson appeared on “The Debrief” podcast and provided the latest on the Frenchman.
“In terms of sort of potentially a breakthrough regarding his future potential contract extension or him moving on, there’s not really been any sort of major progress as far as I’m aware, in terms of him being ready to pledge his future to the club or being ready to agree to a move elsewhere,” Johnson told Angus Scott and Ben Jacobs.
“It sounds like a lot will depend on how PSG fare in the Champions League this season.”
There’s been a lot of information regarding the Mbappé-Real Madrid saga. One of the news pieces reveals that the winger wants to hold onto 100 percent of his image rights, which the Spanish club doesn’t want to do.
In 2022, Real Madrid had an agreement with the Frenchman in which he took 80 percent of the rights while Real Madrid kept 20 percent. It was the way they found for Mbappé to compensate for the salary drop he would have by leaving PSG.
Should PSG advance past the Champions League group stage, this saga will likely drag out until the capital club’s run in Europe ends.
