The France national team wrapped up the FIFA international break with a 4-1 friendly win over Scotland. Kylian Mbappé scored off a penalty kick, but one of his teammates took a playful shot at the 24-year-old captain.
Liverpool FC defender Ibrahima Konaté spoke to reporters postgame and stated his desire to see Benjamin Pavard complete the hat-trick. Pavard scored at the 16th and 24th-minute mark.
Late in the first half, Les Bleus had a penalty kick opportunity, and Konaté jokingly said he wished Pavard had taken the shot instead of Mbappé.
“I would have liked him to score the hat-trick on Kylian’s penalty, but we can’t have everything,” Konaté told RMC Sport with a smile.

Mbappé is coming off a scoring drought that ended last Friday in the 2-1 win over the Netherlands. The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner scored a brace as France punched their ticket to the UEFA Euro 2024.
While some might see it as a selfish act, it’s likely Mbappé’s way of keeping his scoring touch going. He probably wants to build a goal-scoring streak heading back to PSG, knowing it’s time to score at the club level.
