Lionel Messi Reveals the Emotional Challenge of Leaving Paris

A recent claim from a French football pundit revealed that Lionel Messi didn’t want to leave Paris Saint-Germain. The latest remarks from the Argentine might indicate that he didn’t want his time in Paris to end.

Messi won the 2023 Ballon d’Or for his eighth overall award. Furthermore, the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner was back in Paris since leaving the French capital this past summer to join MLS side Inter Miami.

After winning the award, the now-eighth-time Ballon d’Or winner spoke about how challenging it was to leave Paris. Messi noted that departing for the United States wasn’t an easy decision.

“My time in Paris did not go as I hoped for different reasons,” Messi said. “I lived two years in Paris and I have very good friends there. I enjoyed the city a lot. My sons really appreciated it and that it cost them a lot to leave Paris because they didn’t want to move yet and wanted to stay in their school and with their friends.”

It’s unlikely that Messi would remain at PSG, especially on the wages he was on. Furthermore, with the supporters wanting change, the 36-year-old had to go so the capital club could move in a different direction.

The former FC Barcelona star can now play the twilight of his career in South Florida. Meanwhile, the French giants can build a team to compete and possibly win the UEFA Champions League soon.
