Paris Saint-Germain captain Marquinhos has been under fire since the 4-1 loss to Newcastle United on Matchday 2 of the UEFA Champions League. The 29-year-old made the mistake that led to the Magpies’ first goal, and eventually, everything went downhill afterward.
Questions surrounding the captaincy of Marquinhos are beginning to surface. Furthermore, reports from L’Equipe reveal the day-to-day life of the Brazilian due to prominent departures from the team this past summer.
According to the French media outlet, Marquinhos has found himself somewhat isolated in the locker room after the exits of Neymar and Marco Verratti. The Brazilian was very close with both of them during their time with the Ligue 1 giants.

Furthermore, the reporting reveals that during the match against Newcastle, Marquinhos got an earful from manager Luis Enrique.
The Spanish tactician did not hesitate to lecture Marquinhos by asking him to play faster forward, then turning disillusioned towards his assistants when the Brazilian did quite the opposite.

All this information comes from a recent report that Lucas Hernandez is taking a leadership role at PSG. Could a new captain be named sometime this 2023-24 season? It will likely depend on how the season goes for Marquinhos.
