French Pundit Defends Mbappé’s Bold Taunting Toward Brest Supporters

Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappé finds himself in the middle of a controversy. The 24-year-old scored the capital club’s game-winning goal late in  the 3-2 win over Stade Brestois . However, that’s not the controversial part.

After scoring his brace, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner went to the crowd and hugged them. Now, if it were any player, perhaps it would be no big deal. Nevertheless, Mbappé is the captain of the French national team. As a result, he’s held to a higher standard, especially playing in France.

Still, Canal Plus pundit  Govou Sidney  came to the defense of Mbappé for how the winger reacted to the opposing crowd.

“When you have a room, you have to agree to have a room in return!” Sidney wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “The insults, not the chambering I love. Well done, gentlemen, well done, Kylian. Perhaps we will stop treating players like jersey holders, symbols of ethics.”

Even though Mbappé has to be aware that he represents France as the captain, sometimes the emotion of a match can take over. If  Les Bleus  wins UEFA Euro 2024 next year, the Brest supporters will be cheering and likely will forget this matchup.
