Fabrizio Romano: Sheikh Jassim Had Ambitious Mbappé Plan for Manchester United

Could Manchester United have threatened Real Madrid to sign Kylian Mbappé during this past summer transfer window? We might never know, as Qatar’s Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani won’t be taking over the Red Devils.

Transfer window specialist Fabrizio Romano noted that Sheikh Jassim wanted to make a splashy signing. As a result, the journalist reveals he had his eyes on the Frenchman since Paris Saint-Germain was willing to sell the Frenchman early in the summer.

“I can say that Sheikh Jassim wanted to recruit a star this summer, even if I did not confirm that Mbappé was on his list,” Romano conveyed on CaughtOffside (h/t Le10Sport).

“I can also say that, despite the links with Kylian Mbappé, it is normal to have rumors like that when new owners could arrive, but there was nothing concrete. On the one hand, redemption has never been closer. On the other hand, Mbappé was very clear during the summer: he wanted to stay at PSG for at least one more season.”

Sheikh Jassim’s offer, which valued United at more than £5 billion, was believed to be the only bid for 100 percent of the club. Nonetheless, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is set to buy 25 percent of Manchester United for £1.3 billion.

PSG will still have a connection with the Premier League club. Former general director of PSG and CEO of Juventus Jean-Claude Blanc could be set for a vital role at Manchester United under Ratcliffe.
