AC Milan’s Yacine Adli on PSG Return; Playmaker Role for Ousmane Dembélé?

The back-to-back UEFA Champions League matches between Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan will likely determine who puts themselves in a position to qualify for the knockout stage.

While the headline between AC Milan and PSG will be Gianluigi Donnarumma, one player on the Italian side will be facing his former club. When the Serie A club heads to the Parc des Princes on Oct. 25, it will mark the return of Yacine Adli.

Adli made his first team debut with the French giants in 2018 after signing his first professional contract—the 23-year-old left Paris in 2019 for Bordeaux before joining AC Milan in 2021.

“All the matches are tough and there are no easy matches,” Adli told Prime Video (h/t Sempre Milan). “We knew it would be a difficult group. Paris is my home, I grew up there, but now I want to give everything for Milan. I think day after day, I want to work hard. I’m growing and I play a little more, I don’t have to give up.”

Will Ousmane Dembélé have a new role at PSG?

The disastrous 4-1 loss to Newcastle United on Wednesday night has manager Luis Enrique thought for a long time in his office at the PSG campus. As a result, the Spanish manager is tempted to make a more drastic switch.

Le Parisien reports that in recent days, Enrique has tested other options, including a 4-2-3-1 with Dembélé as the player. The role will put the Frenchman as the No. 10 behind the striker.

It will be interesting to see whether this system is rolled out against AC Milan. The Ligue 1 side needs at least four points out of these two matches to feel comfortable about clinching a spot in the knockout stages.
