‘No Better Than Him’ – AC Milan Star Earns High Praise from PSG’s Lucas Hernandez

The France national team ushered in a new era after the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Kylian Mbappé took over the reins as the French national team captain. However, the other change was AC Milan star Mike Maignan taking over as the No. 1 goalkeeper.

France has yet to lose with Mbappé wearing the captain’s armband, which can also be attributed to the 28-year-old’s play between the pipes. Les Bleus picked up a 2-1 win over the Netherlands on Friday at Johan Cruyff Arena, with Maignan making three saves.

However, the Frenchman did get marked for making an error leading to the Netherlands goal. Nonetheless, PSG’s Lucas Hernandez praised postgame Maignan as he transitions his AC Milan form to the national team.

“For me, there is no better than him today,” Hernandez told TF1 (h/t Foot Mercato). “He is top 1. He has an incredible level; for me, he is really the number 1 in the world. We are lucky to have him in the club, uh, in the national team.

“This serenity that he has and this tranquility that he exudes, it’s incredible. Hoping that he continues like this because he is top 1 in the world. He reassures us, he brings a lot of security, on corners, in aerial play, he gives a lot of security to the defenders and the whole team.”

Maignan’s biggest test will come at UEFA Euro 2024 next summer, as he’ll be the No. 1 guy heading into the major tournament. All eyes will be on the former PSG youth product to see if he’s ready for these big-time international football matches.
