Paris Saint-Germain loanee Xavi Simons is thriving while with RB Leipzig. The 20-year-old returned to the French capital after a one-season stint with PSV Eindhoven. However, he was quickly loaned out to the German club.
Simons is barely beginning his career as a professional footballer and recently spoke with Sky Sports News’ Philipp Hinze. The midfielder notes the critical role that Neymar Jr. played early in his career, dating back to when the two were at FC Barcelona.
“He already knew me from Barcelona and was like a father for me,” Simons said. “I will be eternally grateful to him for that. It was a big dream to play with my idol and he’s still an important person for me.
“It’s not easy to come into a big team as a young player, with your idols and great stars – and Neymar has taken on this role as a father. I am very grateful to him for that.”

The midfielder has appeared in eight contests for RB Leipzig this 2023-24 season, scoring three goals and registering four assists. Simons continues his upward trajectory, with many PSG supporters excited about the future.
Still, supporters will need to follow along the German club this season to see how the young player performs. Furthermore, if the Netherlands qualifies for the 2024 UEFA Euro, this could be the stage for a coming out party at the international level.
