During the 2022 summer transfer window, Paris Saint-Germain battled Real Madrid to sign then-AS Monaco midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni. The Spanish club would win the sweepstakes as they continued to add youth to their midfield position.
Tchouaméni recently spoke with French media outlet CANAL+ and noted what led to his decision to reject PSG for Real Madrid. The Frenchman states it’s hard to say no when Los Blancos call.
“PSG, frankly, I thought about it,” Tchouaméni said. “Paris is a very big European club. We want the French clubs to succeed, but honestly, when Real Madrid calls you, it’s very complicated to say no.”

Real Madrid will be looking to add another French talent next summer as the La Liga side focuses on Kylian Mbappé. The 24-year-old is playing this 2023-24 season on an expiring contract, so he can become a free agent in 2024.
Furthermore, Real Madrid can begin talks with the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner as soon as the January transfer window begins. They could look to agree to a pre-contract for the 2024-25 season.
As for Mbappé, the uncertain future isn’t affecting his play, as he’s off to a hot start from a goal-scoring perspective this season.
