Lucas Hernandez is off to a good start with Paris Saint-Germain. So why might this be surprising? Well, the 27-year-old is coming off a significant knee injury sustained during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
As a result, it was a gamble by PSG to bring the former Bayern Munich man. Nonetheless, Hernandez’s peers noticed the quality he has brought to the capital club. One of them is his teammate on the French national team.
Real Madrid midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni spoke about the form he’s seen from the 27-year-old as Les Bleus prepares for Thursday’s 2024 UEFA Euro qualification match.
“We all remember Lucas’ injury [at the World Cup], but when I watched PSG, and when I saw him yesterday, it didn’t even feel like he got injured,” Tchouaméni told reporters. “We’re happy for him. We know he has a big mentality.”

Hernandez has filled the left-back role to start this 2023-24 Ligue 1 season with Nuno Mendes out with injury. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see how manager Luis Enrique decides to navigate the defender once Mendes returns.
Will Enrique put Hernandez still at left-back or move him to compete for a center-back role? While it might be a complicated situation, it’s a good problem, considering it shows the depth at PSG.
