PSG’s Škriniar Joins AC Milan, Barcelona Defender in Sofascore’s Matchday 1 Team of the Week

Paris Saint-Germain came out victorious in their Matchday 1 contest against Borussia Dortmund. The capital club picked up a 2-0 UEFA Champions League win over the German club, and while the offense is getting the spotlight, so should the defense.

CBS Sports put Ousmane Dembélé in their Team of the Week for the first matchday. Now, Sofascore, using their rating system, put together a Team of the Week for Matchday 1, too. So who’s on the team? PSG’s Milan Škriniar was one of the four defenders on the squad.

Škriniar registered a 7.8 rating from Sofascore for the contest. The 28-year-old had four tackles and two interceptions on the defensive side while also having 105 touches.

Joining the Slovakian defender is AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez (7.9), FC Barcelona’s Jules Koundé (8.1), and Napoli’s Giovanni Di Lorenzo (8.6). Furthermore, PSG Achraf Hakimi (8.9) also made the cut for Sofascore’s Team of the Week.

If PSG wants to get out of this Group of Death, they’ll need more performances from their defensive players like Škriniar to be bullish and help pitch a clean sheet. The French side will travel on Matchday 2 to St. James’ Park, where they’ll look to take points away from Newcastle United.
