Former Paris Saint-Germain defender Sergio Ramos is returning to La Liga to likely wrap up his playing career. The 37-year-old was announced as Sevilla FC’s newest signing after he became a free agent on July 1.
Ramos returns to where his career began. Furthermore, the veteran defender will also play in the UEFA Champions League with the Spanish club.
ESPN reports, citing sources, that Ramos drew interest from Saudi Arabia’s Al Ittihad, Galatasaray, FC Porto, and MLS. However, the former Real Madrid captain has opted for Sevilla as he desires to stay closer to home.
Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappé reacted to Sevilla’s announcement regarding Ramos’ return. Through an Instagram story, the 24-year-old wished his former teammate good luck on this venture.
“Good luck, my friend,” Mbappé wrote. “[The] king is back.”

Ramos should last season that he’s still capable of playing at a high level despite his age and having his career likely end where it all began is that storybook ending many footballers aspire to have.
