Paris Saint-Germain were in the market for a striker this summer transfer window. The capital club eventually landed Gonçalo Ramos and Randal Kolo Muani. However, the Ligue 1 giants did have their eyes on another player, Antoine Griezmann.
Rumors circulated that the French giants would have their eyes on the Atlético de Madrid star. Nonetheless, L’Equipe’s Loïc Tanzi confirms that PSG did probe the situation, but there was one major issue.
Upon finding out his release clause, PSG inquired about the feasibility of the Griezmann file. Paris could not make any concrete progress due to the Frenchman’s salary.

Tanzi adds that the 32-year-old earns €8 million with the Spanish club, which was a problem as PSG didn’t plan to include another large salary in their budget.
While L’Equipe puts Griezmann’s salary at €8 million, Capology has it at €6 per year net, similar to Kolo Muani’s wages at PSG, which are €7 million per year net. Meanwhile, Ramos earns €3 million annually, so PSG has the Portugal international at half the cost.
Even though Griezmann has a connection with Kylian Mbappé and is French, he’s at the end of his prime. As a result, betting on Kolo Muano and Ramos was the more economical and sporting choice.
