The Ballon d’Or award ceremony is on the horizon. Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi didn’t hide his opinion about who he wants to win the honor: Kylian Mbappé.
As part of a press conference with certain media, including RMC Sport, Al-Khelafi agreed to discuss the Mbappé case. Furthermore, the club chief began lobbying for the 24-year-old to win the prestigious award.
“The problems we have had remain in the family, and Kylian is part of the family,” Al-Khelafi told RMC Sport. “I am proud of what he is doing – and of what the whole team is doing. We have the best player in the world, and for me, he deserves the Ballon d’Or.”
Mbappé had a quality 2022–23 season, a prominent absence from his candidacy to win the award, which is the lack of a major trophy. The Frenchman’s competition is Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland, and both have that silverware.
Messi won the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Argentina over France. Had the PSG star won the contest, his candidacy would be undisputed. As for Haaland, Manchester City won the 2023 UEFA Champions League.
It’s hard to see the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner winning the award over these two players, but stranger things happen.
