Mbappé’s Role Within PSG Unchanged Despite Real Madrid Saga, Marquinhos Says

Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé was in the middle of another transfer saga this summer. After the 24-year-old decided not to trigger the option to extend his contract until 2025, the rumors linking him to Real Madrid grew louder.

Furthermore, PSG and the Frenchman found themselves in a poker match to see which side would fold. The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner was training with the undesirable players and missed the summer tour in Japan and South Korea.

Despite the Parisians giving their star player an ultimatum of extending his contract or being sold, both sides made amends. For now, Mbappé is a PSG player. Nonetheless, all the summer drama and transfer rumors haven’t affected the forward’s place on the team.

Ahead of PSG’s UEFA Champions League contest against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday at the Parc des Princes, Marquinhos notes that Mbappé’s status within the dressing room hasn’t changed.

“He hasn’t changed,” Marquinhos told reporters (h/t Paris Fans). “It has always been very clear that he is important to us. He is a leader. He is an important player who has words and vision. He knows how to express himself about what he wants. His role has not changed.”

Mbappé will have to put his future on hold as PSG is in a challenging group with AC Milan, Dortmund, and Newcastle United. As a result, the winger has a tall task if he and his teammates want to qualify for the knockout stages.
