Paris Saint-Germain welcomed a new central defender this summer transfer window when the capital club signed Milan Škriniar as a free agent from Inter Milan.
The last time that the Ligue 1 side signed a center-back from one of the Milan clubs was Thiago Silva. The Brazilian would go on to captain PSG and mentor Marquinhos, who now wears the armband.
Ahead of the UEFA Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund, Marquinhos spoke to reporters about Škriniar and how the two are adapting to one another.
“Each player has his own qualities and personality,” Marquinhos told reporters (h/t Paris Fans). “I always learn as much as possible with my teammates while trying to put them at ease, like my idols did with me. Škriniar, we know his quality. I try to put mine in his favor so that we can be a good duo.
“But it’s not just him, there are other defenders, there will be rotation. We have a lot of matches and objectives. It’s important to always be ready. The one on the pitch will always have to give 100 percent.”
If PSG is going to get out of this Group of Death, which also has AC Milan and Newcastle United, Marquinhos and Škriniar will need to be flawless, considering all these clubs possess quality attacking players.
The Ligue 1 side’s defense took a hit last Friday in the 3-2 loss to OGC Nice. However, Marquinhos wasn’t playing in the contest, so perhaps with the Brazilian and Slovakian tandem, PSG will return to making life difficult for their opponents.
