The summer transfer window may be over, but that doesn’t stop rumors or opinions from surfacing. In Spain, the media continues to talk about Kylian Mbappé and Real Madrid. However, Erling Haaland is now entering the soap opera.
MARCA’s José Félix Díaz wrote why the Spanish giants chose not to pursue the Frenchman or the Manchester City star. In Mbappé’s case, Los Blancos would rather gamble again, knowing the 24-year-old is a free agent after this 2023-24 season.
Díaz notes that the finances are a significant part of why the La Liga side operates at their timeline rather than pushing for a transfer due to panic.
“[Real Madrid] does not want to mortgage his future to either of them. Of course, they will be attentive to what they do and to that opportunity that may appear, but as has been demonstrated in the recently completed market, they are not going to be crazy.
“They are going to consider the French and the Norwegian as the objectives around which the future of the Madrid entity will revolve. They are very clear about it, and they are executing it.”
Mbappé is at the center of PSG’s project and has friends and teammates on the French national team with the Ligue 1 giants. As a result, the capital club could have them convince the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner to extend and deny Real Madrid again.
These next few months will be interesting to follow to see what direction each party decides to take.
