Paris Saint-Germain will head to St. James’ Park for a Matchday 2 UEFA Champions League contest on Wednesday against Newcastle United. The question for this match is whether the capital club will have Kylian Mbappé.
The 24-year-old suffered an ankle injury in the 4-0 win last Sunday over Olympique de Marseille. Le Parisien’s projected starting 11 has PSG playing without the Frenchman against Clermont Foot on Saturday.
Ahead of the game, PSG manager Luis Enrique provided an update on the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner.
“He trained with the group without embarrassment,” Enrique told reporters Friday (h/t Paris Fans). “It is perfectly available. He received treatment this week and is in perfect condition.”
Furthermore, Enrique notes what his squad still needs to improve. PSG is coming off impressive wins over Borussia Dortmund and Marseille; however, the Spanish manager believes there are areas where the team can improve.
“There are many areas for improvement,” Enrique added. “We are in a learning phase in our way of working. Over time, players will be able to identify things without needing to be shown them. I’m very happy with the players, but we still have a lot of work to do.”
PSG can begin to take a stranglehold on Group F if they pick up a win on the road over the Magpies. Nonetheless, if the French giants want those three points, they’ll need Mbappé.
