Journalist Gives Interesting Take on Mbappé-PSG Dialogue Amid Real Madrid Rumors

The Kylian Mbappé transfer saga has spilled into the 2023–24 season, with the 24-year-old not leaving Paris Saint-Germain this summer. As a result, the question remains: Where does the Frenchman’s future lie?

As the season progresses, there will be no shortage of reports or takes on what Mbappé should do. CBS Sports reporter Jonathan Johnson provided more clarity on what’s transpiring.

In his exclusive CaughtOffside column, Johnson wrote that PSG and the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner are having a dialogue over an extension. As a result, it’s no longer assumed that Mbappé will make his way to Real Madrid or any other club next summer.

Even if Los Blancos is still widely expected to be his destination at some point in his career. Nonetheless, the capital club has done everything possible to ensure an extension can occur.

“While I haven’t heard of any major breakthroughs in talks, there is now open dialogue between Kylian Mbappé and PSG over a new contract,” Johnson wrote. “That’s obviously quite encouraging from a PSG standpoint as it’s very different from the situation we saw over the summer.”

Still, while an extension is a possibility with PSG, Johnson believes that it’s a matter of when, not if, Mbappé will play for Real Madrid.

“There’s been some noise since the end of the transfer window that the player is expected to join Real Madrid, but we’ve heard that before,” Johnson added.

“No one’s kidding themselves, there probably is a day when Mbappe will play for Real Madrid, but whether that’s in a year’s time or a bit longer, we’ll have to wait and see. For the moment, there’s been no major breakthrough in terms of having some clarity about Mbappe’s situation beyond the end of this season.”
