Dig at Lionel Messi and Neymar? Pauleta Praises PSG’s Team Over Individual Approach

Paris Saint-Germain is ushering in a new project under new manager Luis Enrique. The capital club wants to prioritize building a team and not relying on superstars, so the French side moved on from players like Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr.

This new approach is drawing praise, including from former PSG striker Pauleta. The Portuguese international particularly praised the club’s new policy. He also congratulated Luis Enrique for how the squad has started this 2023-24 season. It had been a long time for him since we had seen a team.

“I’m very happy to finally see a coach who clearly says that the team is more important than all the players; that’s already good,” Pauleta said on Amazon Prime Video (h/t Paris Fans). “This is the first coach I’ve seen say that in a long time. There, you see the team making efforts. It’s super important to have a good season.”

After the failures of relying on superstars to obtain a UEFA Champions League trophy, PSG is going with names that aren’t as sexy as Messi and Neymar. The Parisians hope this formula gets them over the hump and allows them to lift a Champions League trophy.

The Ligue 1 side is beginning to click on all cylinders following wins over Borussia Dortmund and Olympique de Marseille. If this is how the team will play under Enrique, they might have a chance to go deep in this tournament.
