One of the marquee transfers from this summer was when Paris Saint-Germain added Ousmane Dembélé from FC Barcelona. The Ligue 1 club paid €50.4 million to secure the player and bring him to the French capital.
The Frenchman spent six years at Camp Nou, and while Xavi Hernandez did everything to keep him with the Spanish club, it was to no avail. Nonetheless, Dembélé had let him know that he had chosen to join PSG and that nothing could make him change his mind.
Now that the 2023-24 season is underway and some time has passed, Xavi was again asked about the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner’s departure from the Catalan side this summer.
“Yes, I remember Ousmane Dembélé,” Xavi said (h/t Canal Supporters). “But I haven’t seen PSG’s matches. I’m more concerned about our opponents, La Liga [and] the Champions League; at the moment, PSG is not our opponent. I have no hard feelings towards Ousmane. I still love him as much, and I wish him the best.
“But we must continue, Barça continues. We found solutions with Raphinha, Ferran Torres, [and] Lamine Yamal. Sometimes, when one player leaves, another appears, and we are delighted with those who have left us and the team we have.”
Dembélé picked up his first assist with PSG after providing a cross into the pass that led to a goal by Gonçalo Ramos. The assist against Olympique de Marseille could get the winger going and increase his production after having a 0 goals and 0 assists stat line.
