Paris Saint-Germain made one of the more intriguing signings this summer transfer window by bringing Ousmane Dembélé from FC Barcelona. The Frenchman had a reasonable release clause in his contract with the Spanish giants. As a result, the capital club decided to come in for the swoop.
Nonetheless, those in Barcelona remain furious over the situation. The latest to talk about the 26-year-old is Enric Masip, advisor to Barça president Joan Laporta.
Masip didn’t hold back his criticism when discussing the departure of Dembélé to PSG this summer. For the Catalan leader, the Frenchman was not loyal to the club.
“Everyone must be disappointed by the ways,” Masip told SPORT. “I like good players, but I prefer committed players. If you have both, perfect. Dembéle already demonstrated his lack of commitment when he did not renew. I prefer a player who gives me a seven or an eight to one who gives me a ten and two days later goes to another team to win more.
“It is very easy to kiss the badge when you score a goal or sell smoke on social networks. It is legal to want to earn more, but when one is committed, one does not look at the money and does not say one thing one day and another another.
“I’d rather play with a boy from the academy or with Raphinha, who gives everything in every training session, than with someone who one day gives you a nine and another gives you a three.”
Before returning to favor under Xavi Hernandez, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner and Barça remained in conflict over a new contract last year. Nonetheless, both parties signed a new agreement until 2024, but this deal provided an easy out for Dembélé.
The winger hopes to flourish under manager Luis Enrique, who managed Xavi while at Barcelona. Furthermore, he’s also playing alongside Kylian Mbappé, so Dembélé has factors that should see him succeed.
