Andres Iniesta Recalls Emotional Reaction to Barcelona-PSG’s Infamous 6-1 Match

One of the dark matches in Paris Saint-Germain’s history was the 6-1 loss to FC Barcelona in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 in 2017. The capital club went to the Camp Nou with a 4-0 lead, and every PSG supporter knows the story.

Former Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta recalled that game and even noted that he didn’t believe what transpired that led to them advancing past PSG.

“It was one of the most incredible games to watch,” Iniesta said. “The first leg was a disaster with a 4-0 loss, and it was difficult to come back.”

After the 2016-17, the Ligue 1 giants ushered in a superstar era with Neymar Jr. and Kylian Mbappé. Then, a few years later, Lionel Messi would come aboard. This run did mark a Champions League final appearance in 2020 and a semifinal berth in 2021. However, PSG wouldn’t win the trophy.

Furthermore, over the last two years, the Ligue 1 giants have regressed, failing to make it out of the round of 16. As a result, PSG has ushered in a new project where the club wants to build a team and not be superstar-dependent.
