Paris Saint-Germain is coming out of the gate for the 2023-24 Ligue 1 season slow. The capital club has two draws and only has scored one goal in 180 minutes under new manager Luis Enrique.
After PSG’s 1-1 draw against Toulouse FC on Saturday at the Stadium TFC, Marquinhos spoke to CANAL+. Additionally, the Brazilian defender noted what the squad must do to get on track and begin racking up wins.
“I think that, as we have a lot of possession of the ball, we are looking for space a lot, and the teams will inevitably end up starting to step back and we will have a lot less space to create chances,” Marquinhos said postgame (h/t Culture PSG). “The coach worked on that this week. Now we have to work to create more chances.
“We had some important ones today that could have changed the game and the result. We have to focus on the details; we have a good physical level to feel good and make the right decisions, especially at the end of the match. I think that in the season we will improve and, little by little, we are moving in the right direction.”
Nonetheless, the Ligue 1 giants will face a tough challenge when they face RC Lens next Saturday. Lens was the runner-up to PSG last season and will be the only other French club in this season’s UEFA Champions League.
However, what could be in the Parisian’s favor is having Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé for a full 90 minutes. The 24-year-old has scored the lone goal this season after coming into the game against Toulouse in the second half.
All eyes will be on the duo if they can be the difference.
