Ousmane Dembélé was officially announced on Saturday as the newest player for Paris Saint-Germain. After the saga dragged out for a few days, the capital club was finally about to wrap up the file and unveil the player via social media.
Nonetheless, the Frenchman offered his reason for leaving FC Barcelona and returning to France. The winger played at Stade Rennais, so this is a homecoming for him.
“The conversations with the coach,” Dembélé said. “For me, having trust is vital for a footballer. I also spoke with the Sporting Director and the President. I spoke with them and they really explained the project at PSG and I was impressed.
“It’s very exciting and I hope that we are going to achieve great things together. I like the way Luis Enrique wants to play. We know it, we know that he is obsessed with possession, we know he likes to play attacking football and that’s a perfect fit for me.”
Dembélé will look toward his new chapter with the Ligue 1 giants. The forward won’t play in the home opener against FC Lorient on Saturday at the Parc des Princes. However, he likely will be presented to the supporters.
Still, now all eyes will be on the forward to see if he can remain healthy and be a significant part of PSG’s new project under new manager Luis Enrique. If the former Barcelona star can stay healthy and hit another level now that he’s in his prime years, it could be a steal of a signing.
