Neymar Jr. moved to Al-Hilal on Tuesday, ending his six seasons with Paris Saint-Germain. The 31-year-old arrived in 2017 and played a significant role in the capital club reaching the 2020 UEFA Champions League final.
However, the chapter needed to be closed, and both sides had to move on as PSG entered a new project under new manager Luis Enrique. Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi commented on Neymar’s exit to express his gratitude toward the Brazilian.
“It is inevitably difficult to say goodbye to a legend of the club, which Neymar will be forever,” Al-Khelaifi said (h/t Paris Fans). “I will never forget the day he arrived at Paris Saint-Germain, nor what he brought to our club and our project over the past six years.
“We have lived extraordinary moments and Neymar will always be part of our history. I would like to thank him and his family. We wish Neymar the best for the future and his next adventure.”
Neymar leaves Paris as a PSG legend, winning several domestic trophies. Even though the veteran didn’t win the Champions League, he did get them there, which was the club’s first-ever appearance.
Still, seeing a PSG contest now with no Brazilian wearing the No. 10 will be odd. Whether it’s Kylian Mbappé or someone else who wears that number, it will take some time to get used to. Tuesday marked the end of an era and a start of a new one.
