Mbappé Omitted from PSG’s Opening Ligue 1 Match in Bid to Change Transfer Standpoint – Report

As the 2023-24 Ligue 1 season starts next Saturday for Paris Saint-Germain. The capital club will welcome FC Lorient to the Parc des Princes as they look to get off on the right foot. However, the focus will be on whether Kylian Mbappé will play.

The Athletic’s Mario Cortegana reports that PSG will not call up Mbappé for their opening Ligue 1 match.

PSG is reportedly utilizing this tactic to pressure the superstar forward. For the capital club, the hope that disappointed fans’ response could alter Mbappé’s stance about leaving the club on a free transfer.

With Mbappé’s contract set to expire at the end of this upcoming season, the French giants find themselves in a precarious situation. The 24-year-old forward has been linked with a high-profile move to Real Madrid.

As a result, PSG wants to avoid losing him without securing a substantial transfer fee. It will be interesting to see how the supporters react to him, whether he’s on the bench or in the stands.

Nonetheless, a few weeks are left until the summer transfer window closes. So this saga will end for now, either with Mbappé departing or staying.
