Inter Miami star Lionel Messi spoke with reporters before the Leagues Cup 2023 final against Nashville SC. While the Argentine did discuss the contest, the questions shifted to his time at Paris Saint-Germain.
Messi noted no desire to head to Paris after he left FC Barcelona in 2021. Furthermore, the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner hinted at why he feels more comfortable playing in Miami than in the French capital.
“From the beginning, my welcoming was incredible,” Messi told reporters. “It’s a city full of Latinos, and it makes everything much easier. Latinos make me feel welcome, loved. It’s the most important and healthy part of what makes you enjoy what you do.”

It’s no secret that Messi’s move to PSG was strictly business. The Ligue 1 giants received an economic boost after coming off the coronavirus pandemic. Meanwhile, the seven-time Ballon d’Or had a place to prepare for the World Cup in Qatar.
Nonetheless, Messi could’ve gone anywhere after leaving Barcelona, but he likely wanted to keep his salary. The Argentine did receive handsome compensation, so those in charge of his career did push him to sign with PSG.
Still, a separation this summer was ideal, considering how the player felt and the direction PSG wants to go in.
