Real Madrid will go a second summer without landing Kylian Mbappé. Many might have assumed that the Spanish club would land the player after the 24-year-old opted not to trigger his option to extend his contract.
Furthermore, it appeared as though the capital club was willing to sell the Frenchman. The winger didn’t travel to Asia for PSG’s summer tour, so a transfer seemed imminent. Nonetheless, it won’t happen.
Then there are also talks about a possible contract extension. El Chiringuito host Josep Pedrerol has stated that Real Madrid should drop their interest if Mbappé extends his contract with PSG.
Additionally, Pedrerol has gone further and notes that if the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner doesn’t come as a free agent, Los Blancos have to pivot and go after Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.
“[Real Madrid president] Florentino [Perez] trust me,” Pedrerol said Thursday. “If Mbappé renews, go for Haaland.”

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti had alternative plans for this summer, but the La Liga side has all of its eggs in the Mbappé basket. Will the decision pay off? These next 12 months will be interesting to follow.
