‘It Is a Pity’ – Barcelona’s Xavi Gives Honest Take on Ousmane Dembélé Transfer Saga

Paris Saint-Germain could be on the verge of having Ousmane Dembélé join their squad. The capital club is pushing to have the 26-year-old come as soon as possible. Furthermore, manager Xavi Hernandez confirmed the Frenchman’s desire to leave.

FC Barcelona wrapped up its summer tour in the United States with a 1-0 win over AC Milan. After the match, Xavi confirmed that Dembélé had asked to leave the Spanish giants and why the forward didn’t play in the friendly.

“Dembélé has asked us to leave, he has a proposal from PSG and that’s why he didn’t play,” Xavi told Esport3. “It is a pity. It tastes bad to me. We had taken great care of Dembélé here. We cannot match PSG’s offer.

“I tried to convince Dembélé to stay, but he told me that he spoke to Luis Enrique and [Nasser] Al-Khelaifi and there was no way to convince him. It’s final and it’s his personal decision.”

The Ligue 1 champions likely view the Barcelona star as the replacement for Kylian Mbappé, who is leaving PSG. Whether this summer transfer window or next year as a free agent, the 24-year-old’s time is over in the French capital.

Finally, the French giants want the winger to head to Paris to finalize the medicals needed and figure out a payment. PSG want payments spread out but could also make a one-time payment to put the saga behind them.
