Fabrizio Romano Weighs In on Real Madrid-Kylian Mbappé Saga After Ancelotti’s Claim

The Real Madrid and Kylian Mbappé saga took another twist after manager Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Real Madrid’s transfer window is over. Anyone expecting a last-minute bid might be disappointed.

With the Mbappé saga having a temporary solution, transfer window specialist Fabrizio Romano weighed in on the issue. Romano notes that although Ancelotti has publicly stated that Real Madrid will not make any more signings, recent events suggest they may change their mind.

“Real Madrid sources into the club, not just Carlo Ancelotti; they believe what Ancoletti said today is the reality,” Romano said. “So not to make any change. I always repeat that we never know in the transfer market.

“For example, two years ago, Real Madrid had the same feeling of no transfers, and then in the final days of the transfer window, they had the chance to sign Eduardo Camavinga, to anticipate Camavinga deal because Madrid had the chance to sign him as free-agent in 2022, but then they decided to anticipate that and sign him in 2021.”

Even though the Spanish giants can change their minds, there’s nothing concrete to believe a move for Mbappé. The transfer window closes on Sept. 1, so only a few days remain to get a deal done.

“We never know in the transfer market, but the feeling of Carlo Ancelotti in public is the same they have internally at Real Madrid: that at the moment, nothing concrete is happening with Mbappé or PSG,” Romano added. “Let’s follow the story in the next days.”

With likely no bid from Los Blancos, the 24-year-old will stay with Paris Saint-Germain and now approach free agency next summer. The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner’s contract expires in June 2024. Mbappé opted not to trigger the option to extend his contract until 2025.
