It’s one and done for Xavi Simons at PSV Eindhoven. After much speculation, the 20-year-old will be returning to Paris Saint-Germain.
Transfer window specialist Fabrizio Romano reports that PSG triggered a €6 million buy-back clause to secure Simons’ return to the club. Furthermore, the Netherlands international has left PSV’s camp to sign with the Ligue 1 side.
Romano explains that Simons’ future at PSG depends on the outcomes of the situations involving Kylian Mbappé and Neymar. If either of the two departs the club, Simons is expected to remain at PSG as part of the squad.

However, should Mbappé and Neymar stay, Simons will likely be sent on loan to another club. A move away will allow him to further gain valuable playing time and experience.
Romano concludes that Simons’ medical tests and contract signing at PSG will be Sunday. The Italian journalist also confirms that sporting advisor Luis Campos got the player back for the €6 million clause included in the contract last year.

Many clubs are pushing to have Simons on loan if Mbappé and Neymar continue at PSG for the 2023-24 season.
Simons, a highly regarded prospect, initially left PSG to join PSV last summer. The former FC Barcelona began a search for more playing time and development opportunities.
The return of the midfielder marks a significant acquisition to the capital club as newly hired manager Luis Enrique intends to give young players opportunities to play. While there’s no explanation for why Simons returned, it’s safe to assume that Enrique played a role.
