What Financial Ramifications PSG Faces If Mbappé Isn’t Sold to Real Madrid -Report

Paris Saint-Germain has a lot riding in the Kylian Mbappé transfer saga. The 24-year-old’s contract expires in June and the capital club cannot let him leave on a free transfer.

The Athletic reported on Monday, citing sources, if the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner decides to run down his contract, it will cause financial issues for the French giants.

Furthermore, the effect on financial fair play of receiving a fee or not means PSG has halted specific transfer activity. The pursuit of Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva is on standby until matters become more precise.

PSG faces more issues if the Frenchman leaves on a free transfer. The Athletic adds that the Ligue 1 side must sell players and other staff changes because of a £150 million black hole that is not accounted for.

The uncertainties surrounding Mbappé’s contract situation create a sense of urgency for PSG to find a resolution. A move to Real Madrid or an extension will need to happen. The French giants could face dire financial ramifications.
