The Paris Saint-Germain midfield is getting crowded after the arrivals of Kang-In Lee and Manuel Ugarte. There will likely be a departure, which is why Renato Sanches’ name is in the rumor mill.
Sanches’ name is currently in connection to a possible departure to AS Roma. However, the 25-year-old might not be keen on a move to the Italian capital for one key reason.
RMC Sports’ Fabrice Hawkins reports manager José Mourinho wants the Portugal international at Roma. Nonetheless, they must convince Sanches, as the PSG midfielder wants to play UEFA Champions League football in 2023-24.

Roma will play in European competitions this upcoming season, but it will be in the UEFA Europa League. Roma had an opportunity to clinch a spot in the Champions League but lost the 2023 Europa League final to Sevilla FC.
The Serie A club can likely convince Sanches to have a prominent role in the midfield. The former SL Benfica youth product has to play if he wants to be part of the Portugal national team for UEFA Euro 2024.
While at PSG, he can play Champions League football, but there’s no guarantee Sanches will play any of those contests. New manager Luis Enrique wants competition to get into the starting 11, so seeing the pitch will be a fight.
At Roma, Sanches might have an easier time. It will be interesting to see if the Italian club can make him see that perspective.
