The Kylian Mbappe transfer saga took an unexpected twist Friday. Paris Saint-Germain left the 24-year-old off the squad for the Asia tour in Japan and South Korea.
PSG is taking a firm stance with Mbappe as he has three options this summer. The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner can agree to a transfer, sign a new contract, or be phased out of the project should he stay without signing a new deal and then leaves as a free agent.
Although the team is preparing for the 2023-24 season, they know what’s happening with Mbappe. PSG captain Marquinhos was asked about the current situation between the club and its star player.
“It’s a delicate question,” Marquinhos said. “He’s an exceptional player. It’s a question that goes beyond the players. It concerns the management. I hope he can be part of the group and help us this season.”

The entire saga began when the Frenchman decided not to trigger the option to extend his contract until 2025. PSG likely assumed that Mbappe would activate that option considering he held the kit with the words “Mbappe 2025.”
As for the best-case scenario for PSG, the Ligue 1 giants will have to recoup a respectable transfer fee. Afterward, they can turn the page on. Mbappe and begin a new era under new manager Luis Enrique.
