Paris Mayor Slams PSG’s Approach to Mbappé Situation Amid Real Madrid Rumors

Kylian Mbappé is a French icon in Paris, so it’s no surprise some have his back in this transfer saga. The 24-year-old is frozen from the squad as Paris Saint-Germain left him off the roster for the summer tour in Japan and South Korea.

The entire saga began when the Frenchman opted not to trigger the option to extend his contract until 2025. Furthermore, with links to Real Madrid, it all points to PSG wanting to move on from the player before he becomes a free agent.

Nonetheless, the mayor of Paris issued some harsh words toward PSG for how the club has handled the situation. Mayor Anne Hidalgo questioned what the Ligue 1 side was doing and desired that Mbappé would somehow remain in France.

“I don’t understand what PSG [is] playing at,” Hidalgo told RMC Sport (h/t World Soccer Talk). “Kylian Mbappé is the best player in the world. I’ll admit that I don’t understand it at all.

“Kylian is an extraordinary player and we have to keep him in Paris,” the mayor continued. “I think it’s also his wish to remain here as long as possible. The question is: what [is] PSG doing?”

It’s unlikely that PSG and Mbappé will be able to repair the relationship and the capital club probably wants to move off from the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner. These next few weeks will be interesting.
