Why PSG Feels ‘Betrayed’ by Mbappé Amid Real Madrid Agreement Rumors, per Ben Jacobs

Paris Saint-Germain likely wants to end the Kylian Mbappé transfer saga this summer. The capital club cannot afford to let the 24-year-old leave as a free agent next year.

As PSG has reportedly put the “for sale” sign on Mbappé, the rumors of interested clubs have skyrocketed. From Al-Hilal to FC Barcelona, there’s no shortage of buzz surrounding the Frenchman.

CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs notes in the latest episode of “The Debrief” that the Ligue 1 side wants to advantage of this interest to ensure they secure a sum.

“We’re seeing a volume of interest,” Jacobs said. “And that volume of interest is an indication that there will be options for Kylian Mbappé this summer, and PSG wants to cash in because they don’t believe he’ll extend. They feel betrayed in many ways because Mbappé, in their eyes, had always indicated that he would extend, or at least not leave on a free transfer.

“And now PSG believes that he’s pre-agreed a deal with Real Madrid for next summer. And this is why they’re acting so aggressively to sell him now because they don’t want any circumstance where they lose the player on a free [transfer].”

As for Real Madrid, a report suggest that Los Blancos and PSG have begun talks through an agent to reach an agreement on a Mbappé transfer. However, the Spanish club likely wants to ensure they secure the player. The La Liga side might not want to let him hear any pitches that could convince him.

It will be interesting to see whether both sides can reach an agreement. PSG probably wants a fresh start under new manager Luis Enrique.
