Fabrizio Romano Reveals Why PSG Began Purusing Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembélé

The rumors linking Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembélé are heating up these last few hours. Due to his release clause, Dembélé can leave the Catalan side for €50 million until July 31.

While PSG is keen on the 26-year-old, he wasn’t the first option. The capital club had its eyes on Olympique Lyonnais’ Bradley Barcola. Transfer window special Fabrizio Romano reports that Lyon’s rejection is what began this new saga.

After PSG had their initial bid of €30 million rejected, the Ligue 1 champions turned their attention to the Barcelona star. The rejection seemingly prompted the Parisian club to pursue alternative options, with Dembélé emerging as a prime target.

Dembélé’s economical price might also be seen with good eyes by PSG. Furthermore, they would need to convince the player to leave Camp Nou. If the Frenchman were to accept and go, it would be a disastrous deal for Barcelona.

L’Equipe recently revealed that if the Ligue 1 champions successfully trigger the release clause, the player would be entitled to 50 percent of the fee, amounting to €25 million. The remaining 50 percent, also €25 million, would be paid to Barcelona.
