Aston Villa Star Should Be Option to Replace Verratti, Journalist Says

Marco Verratti has an uncertain future at Paris Saint-Germain, with the midfielder linked to Al-Hilal. The summer transfer window is open for a few more weeks for the Saudi Arabian side to secure the player.

If Al-Hilal comes with a respectable offer and PSG allows the 30-year-old to leave, they’ll need a replacement. CBS Sports’ Jonathan Johnson wrote in his latest PSG Talk column about possible candidates to replace Verratti should he go.

One name that Johnson views as a possible replacement is Aston Villa midfielder, Douglas Luiz. The 25-year-old is a crucial figure in the midfield for the Premier League club. As a result, it’s why he’s an attractive option.

“Although this one should be considered a wildcard option, the Brazil international has seen his stock rise over the past 18 months,” Johnson wrote. “Now a key player under former PSG boss Unai Emery at Villa Park, Douglas Luiz has attracted interest from the likes of Arsenal in the past.

“A senior Brazil international too, the 25-year-old has illustrated a skill set that puts him not too far from the elite—witness his assist for Moussa Diaby’s first goal in Claret and Blue. With Youri Tielemans now on board for Villa, there is technically already an alternative to Luiz in place for the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers.”

The Ligue 1 side has no intention of accepting the €30 million offer from Al-Hilal. Furthermore, PSG likely has a deadline for the Saudi Arabian club to come up with a better offer.

Should Verratti leave, the French giants need to give themselves time to find a replacement.
