Kylian Mbappé’s future at Paris Saint-Germain continues to be a topic of discussion. Mbappé is a free agent next summer after turning down an option to extend his contract until 2025.
The Athletic’s Mario Cortegana reported, citing sources, on Wednesday that finances are why Mbappé wants to stay at PSG. The 24-year-old will have a handsome salary for the 2023-24 season.
According to Cortegana’s reporting, the French superstar stands to receive €70 million (before tax) in loyalty bonuses. As a result, it’s influencing his decision to stay put this summer.
The combination of a lucrative salary, future bonuses, and possibly having a last dance at PSG might be why Mbappé stays. However, the capital club isn’t dumping that this stance by the player is a power move.
It will be interesting to see if this is the saga’s end or if it will remain ongoing this summer. Should Mbappé stay for next season, then PSG runs the risk of seeing him leave for Real Madrid for nothing in return.
