Lionel Messi intends to sign with Inter Miami once his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires on June 30. The 35-year-old was recently on international duty with the Argentina national team.
As a result, the soon-to-be former PSG star opened up about his next venture to the South Florida-based club. The Argentine will have the task of helping Inter Miami climb out of the bottom near the Eastern Conference.
“I’m well,” Messi told Argentinian TV Publica. “Initially, we had a different idea [to return to Barcelona].
“We’re happy with the decision we have taken. I’m ready and eager to face this new challenge, this change.”
The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner also touched on his decision to head to MLS and spurn other offers. Aside from Inter Miami, Al-Hilal and FC Barcelona were the only two other clubs rumored to be in on the Argentine.
“[The decision] was an important step but at the same time, I was aware of what it meant, of what I was doing,” Messi added. “We’re happy.”
Messi has now closed out a European career and looks to finish the twilight of his career by making an impact in MLS. With the arrival of the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, many eyes will be on the North American league as they grow their presence at an international level.
